Wells Fargo produced a 150-page manual to fabricate missing documents to speed foreclosures, a lawsuit claims, according to published reports.
“This is a blueprint for fraud,” bankruptcy lawyer Linda Tirelli, who filed the federal lawsuit, told The Washington Post. She said she discovered the manual while representing a New York homeowner facing foreclosure. “The idea that this bank is instructing people how to produce these documents is appalling,” she said.
The Post said Wells Fargo would not comment on Tirelli’s case but confirmed the existence of the manual. Bank spokeswoman Vickee Adams said the procedures laid out in the manual are legal, according to the Post.
The newspaper noted that the New York Post first reported on the story.
